Ministerial Study Tour to Wayang Windu Geothermal Facilities with Minister of Energy, Green Technology & Water, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus J. Ongkili and delegation
Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, led a delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry, Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), Energy Commission, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), to visit the Wayang Windu Geothermal Facilities near Bandung, Indonesia on 23 August 2013.
Also in the delegation, numbering about 30, were officials from Sabah Parks Department, Sabah Forestry Department and Tawau Green Energy, including TGE Managing Director, Mr. Ramzi Raad and TGE Advisor, Datuk Peter Lajumin.
The delegation was given a briefing by senior officials from Star Energy, the owner and operator of the facility. Senior officials from the Indonesian Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, and Pertamina Geothermal were also present. Both sides had a very fruitful exchange of information and ideas with regard to the project implementation of TGE's geothermal facility at Apas Kiri, Tawau.
The delegation then proceeded to make a field tour of a geothermal wellpad, as well as the power plant itself, during which technical design and operation issues were highlighted. At the end of the visit YB Minister called for greater technical cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia with regard to the development of geothermal energy, as well as geothermal specialists in Malaysia, including collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).
